The Benefits of Joining a Fraternity: More Than Just Brotherhood

Joining a fraternity is more than just becoming part of a social group—it's a chance to grow personally and professionally. Fraternities offer a unique community where members not only build lifelong friendships but also gain valuable skills that extend beyond college life.

Fraternities provide opportunities for personal growth through leadership roles, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. Members often participate in philanthropic events and service projects, allowing them to give back to the community while developing a sense of responsibility and purpose.

Another key benefit is the networking opportunities. With access to a vast alumni network, fraternity members can find career guidance, internships, and even job opportunities, ensuring that the connections made during college continue to support their professional journey long after graduation.

Whether you're looking to develop leadership skills, expand your social circle, or make a meaningful impact on your community, joining a fraternity offers an enriching experience that helps shape your future, both personally and professionally.

The Benefits of Joining a Fraternity

Joining a fraternity offers more than just a sense of brotherhood—it’s an opportunity for personal growth, networking, and lifelong friendships. Fraternities provide a supportive community where members can build leadership skills, develop strong work ethics, and engage in service opportunities that give back to the community.

Beyond personal development, fraternities also offer access to a vast network of alumni who can provide career guidance, internships, and job opportunities. The bonds formed in a fraternity often last well beyond college, creating a lifelong connection to a group of people who share similar values and experiences.

Whether you're seeking leadership opportunities, a strong social circle, or a way to give back to the community, joining a fraternity can provide a rich and rewarding experience that helps you grow both personally and professionally.

Regional Class Research Vessel: Names

The Regional Class Research Vessel (RCRV) project is a groundbreaking new effort to build three state-of-the-art research vessels to define the future of oceangoing science, funded by the National Science Foundation. The communities in which these ships are named after are often overlooked and misunderstood. In this film, we explore and celebrate the history of the names of these new and upcoming vessels.

Alpha Gamma Rho: A Legacy of Leadership and Brotherhood

On April 4, 1908, the National Fraternity of Alpha Gamma Rho was born from the merger of two local fraternities—Alpha Gamma Rho, founded at The Ohio State University in 1904, and Delta Rho Sigma, founded at the University of Illinois in 1906. This union was built on a shared vision of creating an organization that would stand for honor, integrity, and excellence. As Brother Poston, a charter member from Ohio State, said, the goal was for Alpha Gamma Rho to represent "all that is honorable and just" across agricultural colleges.

Since its founding, Alpha Gamma Rho has expanded far beyond its initial expectations, impacting the lives of thousands of young men and elevating their social, academic, professional, and personal growth. The fraternity's four pillars—recruitment, commitment, education, and recognition—form the bedrock of its success and legacy.

One of the most significant milestones for our Alpha Beta Chapter came on December 6, 1924, when the Kai Tal club was granted chapter status and officially became Alpha Gamma Rho Alpha Beta Chapter. Our chapter house, located at 331 NW 26th Street in Corvallis since 1952, has seen countless brothers mature and grow in its halls. Many areas of the house are dedicated to those who have made lasting contributions to Alpha Gamma Rho, honoring their dedication and spirit.

As AGR's early Grand President, S.K. Bjoronson of North Dakota, once said, “I want her men to be leaders of the future...the strongest of character and the most honorable and resolute of the times.” These values continue to guide us as brothers live by the Brotherhood Covenant—an oath of integrity and commitment that each member pledges upon initiation.

Alpha Gamma Rho remains a brotherhood founded on these timeless principles, empowering young men to become leaders in their communities, careers, and beyond.
