RCRV Ship Progress Update - Fall 2024
The Regional Class Research Vessel (RCRV) project sees major progress with all construction now focused in one shipyard and all major aluminum work completed.
Research vessels are critical platforms for oceanographers, engineers, marine biologists, students and others to access the marine environment. Part lab, part classroom, part transportation and part hotel, ships like R/V Taani, and R/V Oceanus before it, make marine research possible.

The Brotherhood Program
National Leaders designed the Brotherhood Program with the understanding that every member is an equal contributor based solely upon ability and experience. It ended the Alpha Gamma Rho pledge program entirely. Instead, chapters initiate new members within 72 hours of offering membership. New initiates are full members and connected with their Big Brother, an experienced member of the chapter, from that point forward. An individualized curriculum guides brothers through the fraternity and college life cycle in an environment uniquely enhanced by chapters and maintained by the Brotherhood Program's parameters.

- No more pledging
- If required of a freshman, it must be required of a senior
- No dominant/subservient relationships
- Rewards must be based on objective criteria and must not encourage class division
A culture grown within parameters set by the Brotherhood Program surrounds members with influences that foster the highest values, lifelong connections, and opportunities for transformational growth. Fraternal bonds strengthen the local chapter experience, as Little Brothers and Big Brothers drive one another towards excellence in scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and workmanship.

How We Designed a New Pepper🔥🔥🌶️
Oregon State University vegetable breeder Jim Myers has developed two new mild habanero pepper varieties, Notta Hotta and Mild Thing, that capture the fruity and floral flavors of traditional habaneros but without the extreme heat. These peppers have been cleared for release by Oregon State officials, and licensing agreements with seed companies are underway. Expect to see these peppers at farmers markets next year, with seeds available for home gardeners soon!

Brotherhood & Pillars
The Brotherhood Program is a comprehensive plan Alpha Gamma Rho adopted in 1992 to eliminate hazing and equip members with the resources and experiences needed to achieve superior lifelong personal development and professional success. The Pillars are the four fundamental elements of the Brotherhood Program and through it, are the foundation of the Fraternity.

Brothers of the Century
Alpha Gamma Rho honored 718 members as "Brothers of The Century" and celebrated 100 years as a Fraternity during the 2004 National Convention in Columbus, Ohio.
National Leaders selected Columbus, Ohio, because of its history to Alpha Gamma Rho. It is where the Fraternity started in 1904. Approximately 800 alumni and collegiate members, plus their families, attended the convention.
The purpose of the Alpha Gamma Rho Brothers of the Century award was to recognize the "best of the best" members of AGR in the Fraternity's first 100 years.
The brothers selected are known for the highest principles, values, and ideals of brotherhood of Alpha Gamma Rho. And, most importantly, the honorees are recognized within their career fields and communities as role models for young men.
Each recipient received a commemorative medallion and an invitation to attend a special recognition ceremony at the 2004 National Convention, as part of Alpha Gamma Rho's 100th anniversary celebration.
The Brothers of the Century selection committee determined that no more than two percent of the Fraternity's 59,000 initiates would be awarded the distinction of Brothers of the Century. The committee also determined that brothers could be nominated in one of two categories: service to Alpha Gamma Rho and service to agriculture.
Alpha Gamma Rho began its second century with growing momentum and confident expectations that the best is yet to come.

Intersecting Art and Science
Jerri Bartholomew is a research scientist and a glass artist. Her artwork searches for the intersection between the two disciplines and how they inform each other.
As a microbiologist and artist, Jerri tackles the ongoing process of the largest dam removal in history, the Klamath Dam. Jerri creates a dynamic piece that will change over time.
She earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology at Oregon State University, where she is currently a Professor and Director of the J. L. Fryer Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory.
