Bisons' Surprising Role in Aspen Ecosystems


In the northern reaches of Yellowstone National Park, quaking aspen saplings—an ecologically significant tree in the American West—are facing breakage due to the presence of a historically large bison herd. This occurrence is impacting the aspen's resurgence following years of elk over-browsing. Research conducted by Luke Painter from Oregon State University reveals these insights and has been recently published in Ecology and Evolution.
