The Founding of Alpha Gamma Rho: A Legacy Begins

The National Fraternity of Alpha Gamma Rho became a reality on April 4, 1908, through the unification of two local fraternities with a shared vision and purpose. These founding organizations—Alpha Gamma Rho at The Ohio State University, established on October 10, 1904, and Delta Rho Sigma at the University of Illinois, founded on February 6, 1906—came together to form something far greater than either could have achieved alone.

What began as a collaboration between two groups of driven young men quickly grew into a fraternity with a lasting impact. Their mission extended beyond brotherhood, aiming to shape individuals who embody integrity, leadership, and service.

Charter member Brother Poston of Ohio State captured this vision early on, stating, “From the start, it was our ambition that the name Alpha Gamma Rho in every agricultural college would stand for all that is honorable and just.”

That ambition has endured. Over the years, Alpha Gamma Rho has elevated the social, physical, spiritual, academic, and professional lives of thousands of young men. What started as a bold idea in the early 1900s has become a legacy—one that continues to grow and inspire future generations.
